waxing on.

A couple of months ago when Prima Marketing sent me a bunch of transfers to give away, they also threw some extra Metallique waxes into the box.

I’ve been using these waxes since late last year and I gotta say, I love them.

I used to use Rub ‘n Buff for all of my metallic waxing needs, but I really didn’t care for the little tubes that it comes in.  The plastic screw tops always cracked on me and then the wax dried out and clogged the tube.  I also felt like it didn’t dry as hard as the Prima Marketing wax does.  It seemed like more of the wax rubbed off again when I tried to buff it.   Maybe that’s just my opinion though (or user error on my part), I didn’t do any scientific testing or anything.

Regardless, I’ve gotten great results using the Metallique wax.

My favorite use for metallic wax is sprucing up old metal knobs and drawer pulls.  It’s such an easy way to refresh them.  Simply clean your knobs with soap and water, let dry and then apply the wax with a q-tip.  Let the wax harden for a few hours and then buff to bring out the shine.

The Bronze Age on the knobs shown above is a nice warm bronze-ish brown color.  I love pairing this color with Fusion’s Ash or Dixie Belle’s Gravel Road, both dark charcoal greys.

I also love the Vintage Gold which looks a lot like gold leaf to me.

The wax works well on the clean lines of mid-century hardware …

but also on more ornate knobs or pulls …

I had yet to try some of the other colors that are available, so I pulled out some spare hardware to test them out.

From top to bottom they are Old Silver, White Gold, Aged Brass and Rose Gold.  Aren’t they pretty?  I’m patiently waiting for just the right piece to come along for that gorgeous Old Silver, and I just used the White Gold on a mid-century piece that I’ll be sharing in another week or so.

There are plenty of other ways you can use the wax besides just on drawer hardware.  It also works beautifully to add a little shimmer to ornate frames.

The Bronze Age was perfect for disguising the shiny chrome ‘neck’ on my dress form, Collette.

Now for the fun part, Prima Marketing sent me a dozen of these waxes in various colors to give away!  I’m going to give them away in sets of four (approx. value:  $30).  So, we’ll have three winners today.

The basic rules:  to be eligible to win today’s prize leave a comment on this blog post telling me which one of the colors you like most.  Your comment must be left on the blog, not on Facebook or Instagram.  You are not required to follow my blog, although if you don’t already follow me, it would be awesome if you did!

I will randomly draw the names of three winners from all of the comments left on this post by Sunday, August 26, 2018 at high noon (U.S. central time).

The fine print: no purchase necessary, you must be 18 years of age or older to win, void where prohibited by law, the number of eligible entries received determines the odds of winning, if the prize is not claimed by Friday, August 31, another name will be drawn at random to win, yada, yada, yada … good luck!

  1. Well, first , thank you for always being generous and giving away your products, that’s awesome. And I will for sure be purchasing some of these. My favorite color wax is Old Silver. I love old silverplate pieces. Wonder if you could apply that wax to some of the really worn away finish smaller pieces to use as decorative displays? Hmmm…

    1. I would say yes, if I’m picturing what you’re thinking accurately. But as you mentioned, the piece could only be decorative. I don’t think this product is food safe.

  2. So glad to hear about this product as I’ve had a similar issue with Rub ‘n Buff. All the colors are gorgeous, but if I had to pick one it would be Old Silver. Imagine the possibilities!

    1. I would have to say that I hadn’t either until I tried this product. I used the Rub ‘n Buff, but always felt like too much came off when I got to the ‘buff’ step.

  3. oh my!!!! I need to have these. I use Rub N Buff and hate it. Once I start to buff it, it starts to come off all the time. These waxes are beautiful, I would probably use the white gold, and new silver the most, but the bronze and rose gold are awesome! So glad you did a post on these. Thank you!

    1. I ended up not going to Gold Rush this year. I was worried it was going to be too hot, and then about 4 other things came up that I needed to deal with that day. I’m glad you found something awesome there though!

  7. Q- the vintage gold is beautiful! And it doesn’t look streaky which is an issue I’ve had with the rub-n-buff. I would love to try it. The rose gold really interests me… Is it really pinky like the photo looks, or is that just my screen? I think it would be fun!

  8. Vintage gold, but they would all be beautiful! My friend is re-doing her kitchen right now and was debating painting her knobs, so this would be perfect for her 🙂

    1. I feel like painted knobs never stand up over time. I have a couple in my house that look terrible. I have to admit, I’m not sure how well this wax will hold up on a frequently used knob (like on a kitchen cupboard), however, that being said, if you have the wax on hand it would be so easy to touch them up periodically.

  9. Thanks Linda for sponsoring the give-away. The Rose gold has a real appeal to me. It’s not a shade I use often but something about it is becoming a siren song. You might want to share with your Fusion people that something about their website is not working. Whenever I go to “where to buy” in person North American, the site just stops when I put in my zip code. Thanks again for the chance to win.

    1. I just went and tried it and I noticed that when I chose a ‘radius’ nothing showed up in that box (and I had to use my mouse to get to that spot). However, it still gave me the correct results when I clicked on the ‘find locations’ box.

      1. Tried that and it worked. Heading to the shop that is 7.6 kg away tomorrow. However far THAT is.Thanks Linda. Sometimes I forget about the mouse. There was a time if I didn’t have my hand on one I’d be kicking and screaming. Such is progress. Well, not kicking.

  12. Just joined your blog a few days ago and have loved every bit of it. I have been helping women just out of prison learn how to restore furniture while God and they are restoring themselves. These new waxes would be of great use in learning a new technique. Thanks for your blog❤️

  15. Thank you Linda for including all of us in your give away. What good information about each wax color. I love the Bronze Age color. I am working on a dresser right now and it would look great on the hardware. I also like the Vintage Gold. I am thinking about maybe trying it on a mirror. Thank you again Linda for including us.
