I had a bit of fun with today’s project.
True confession, that might have just been because I got to eat some more marshmallows.
But let’s start at the beginning with this toolbox. I’m not entirely sure where this one came from. I have a stash of toolboxes that I found at garage sales over the summer, and I also have a bunch that my friend Sue found for me, also at garage sales.
Either way, here it is ‘before’.

It wasn’t in terrible shape, but there was a bit of rust and peeling paint, and also plenty of dirt.
After my usual prep of washing it up, sanding any rough spots and then adding a coat of Dixie Belle’s Bonding Boss, I painted the outside in their Caviar chalk mineral paint.
Next up I added a stencil to the front.

This is another new stencil that I ordered from The Stencilsmith this season.
I did use my shading technique to add a shadow behind “Campfire”, but it’s hard to tell from my photos. I used Dixie Belle’s Dried Sage for the shadow and their Ecru for the full stencil afterwards.
I hadn’t quite decided what color I wanted on the inside, but after giving it some thought I went with DB’s Oxford Fog. I didn’t want it to feel too Christmas-y because roasting marshmallows is an activity that you can enjoy all year long.

And that was it. I decided not to try to add any other embellishment to this one.
Sometimes it’s good to just keep it simple.
I did add a coat of Dixie Belle’s clear wax to the outside of the toolbox for added protection.
I think this toolbox would be fun decor in a cabin. I would also make an awesome gift basket.

Fill it with your s’mores ingredients, then add in some roasting sticks and maybe a s’mores cookbook like this one …

Or you could go with an overall campfire cookbook theme …

You could also toss in those things that make your fire turn pretty colors such as the EnviroLog Color Flame packets. Just be sure to wait until after you’ve done your cooking to add them to the fire.
I hope to get s’more use out of this stencil yet this year (pardon the bad pun), so I’m on the lookout for some round tins that it might fit on.

But in the meantime, what do you think of this toolbox? Leave a comment and let me know.
It is for sale locally, so be sure to check that out here if you are interested.
