It’s day 3 of my 12 days of giveaways, and today I’m giving away a couple of my favorite shades of Dixie Belle Paint. But first, congrats to Susan Williams who won the day 1 prize. Last night at midnight was the cut off to be eligible for the day 2 prize so I haven’t drawn that name yet but I’ll get on it this morning.
I go through two Dixie Belle colors like there’s no tomorrow. I have to say that, like Switzerland, I tend to stay neutral. Partially because I find that neutral shades sell really well for me, but also simply because personally I currently prefer them in my own home too.
Drop Cloth is probably the color I use most often these days.

Drop Cloth is a warm, creamy white with a slightly greige undertone. It’s not a yellow-ish cream, and it’s definitely not a bright white.

It’s my white of choice because I feel like you can bring this color into any room and it will play well with your other shades of white. It won’t make any of them look dingy, although it may make some of your brighter whites look brighter.

My 2nd favorite neutral Dixie Belle color is Midnight Sky. I originally favored their Caviar, and I do still love that color, but as I’ve been living with both of these shades of black I’ve realized that I prefer the Midnight Sky. It’s just a hair lighter and leans more towards a deep, dark charcoal.

Because this color is slightly … well, for lack of a better description … less black than the Caviar I think it tends to be more forgiving when it comes to dust or smudges.
I used this color on my piano and quite honestly, I rarely dust. So I need a dark color that is more forgiving 😉

The brush that I tend to reach for the most these days when using the Dixie Belle paint is their Flat Medium Synthetic brush. It holds a nice amount of paint and I find that the shape of the handle makes it really comfortable to hold in my hand. It’s also the perfect size to fit into even the smallest Dixie Belle paint jar without catching on the lip. I know you aren’t supposed to paint straight out of the jar, but I do it all the time (maybe you guys should do as I say, not as I do on this one). It may be my imagination, but somehow this brush also seems easier to clean that my Purdy brushes. I have no idea why that would be, maybe the type of bristle?
Anyway, today’s giveaway is for all of you fellow neutral lovers out there. It includes a 16 oz. jar of Drop Cloth, a 16 oz. jar of Midnight Sky and the Flat Medium Synthetic Brush.

Thank you to Dixie Belle Paint Co for sponsoring this giveaway by providing these products.
The rules: to be eligible to win today’s prize leave a comment on this blog post. If you can’t think of anything to say, just tell me whether you’re a fellow lover of neutrals or you prefer lots of color in your world. Your comment must be left on the blog, not on Facebook or Instagram. You are not required to follow my blog, although it would be awesome if you did!
I will randomly draw the name of a winner for today’s prize from all of the comments left on this post by Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the stroke of midnight (U.S. Central time).
The fine print: no purchase necessary, you must be 18 years of age or older to win, void where prohibited by law, the number of eligible entries received determines the odds of winning, approximate retail value of prize is $65, if the prize is not claimed by Sunday, December 8, another name will be drawn at random to win, blah, blah, blah.
Good luck!

I love neutrals too, those you use are yummy. Love all your projects and can really put those two colors to good use.

I just painted my first piece of furniture bright coral armoire for my dining room, I think the next piece, and there will be a next piece, I would like to try your dark Midnight Sky. Both colors are beautiful and I love your painting and script work, thanks for your inspiration!

Hmmm… I wrote a comment but for some reason it would not let me post it. Love the desk If for some reason my previous comment posts just delete this one. I am going to be painting in my daughters new home. Well it’s new to her. Have used Fusion a couple of times and I love how easy it is. She wants something with less sheen on her furniture. How does Dixie Belle compare sheen wise?
LikeLike
The Dixie Belle is definitely far more matte than the Fusion. It has a chalky finish. I like to use either wax or their new Big Mama’s Butta over it because neither of those options adds much sheen, but they both take away the chalky-ness a bit.

I Love black! Most of my accent furniture in my home is black because I like the way the color anchors my home and allows me to bring in any season or holiday colors without it clashing. After reading about your change of heart and moving to Midnight Sky, I am going to repaint two of my pieces and take the “less dust challenge”.

Uh oh. Now I’m going to hope that I can put my money where my mouth is 😉 Let me know what you think after a few months of potential dust build up!

I love your favorite neutrals! I have been adding a lot of lighter greys in my house, but have gone bold with colorful curtains recently.

That’s a great way to add a little bold color. You can always change them out if you want something different down the road.

I am so enjoying revisiting some of your old projects during your giveaway spree. Just looking at those photos gives me inspiration. I’m a neutral gal too! I love blacks and grays with a little white mixed in. Thank you for the opportunity to win some DB paint. I’ve yet to try Dixie Belle but it’s at the top of my Santa Claus wish list.

Neutrals are my favorite too. Whites, blacks, grays and natural wood tone. Love bringing in green to go with it all and different textures to keep it interesting. I just bought Dixie Bell for the first time but haven’t used it yet! Looking forward to trying it. I bought Drop Cloth and a linen color.

Is it the new French Linen? If so, you’ll see something I used that color on this Wednesday. Be sure to stay tuned 🙂

I love to see how you bring life to the pieces you work on! I have never painted a piece of furniture a dark color but after seeing how pretty your pieces turned out I might feel daring enough to try it! I know I would love the drop cloth! Thanks for sharing your work, it’s inspiring!

I paint a lot with whites, grays, black and navy. Those seem to be the colors that sell best for me. I use Fusion Mineral and have never tried Dixie Bell, but would love to.

I have been looking for the right color to paint an old “office” armoire and I think Dixie Bell’s Midnight Sky might be the perfect color! I love neutrals and have used off-white and navy milk paint for a few pieces in my home. Would love to try this paint. Thanks so much for your expertise and knowledge of furniture paint–I am learning so much.

I like both color and neutral.

Love both midnight sky and drop cloth. I tend towards neutrals, too, as I find a neutral pallet soothing. Though I do love me a pop of unexpected color somewhere in the mix, just to keep things interesting. Thanks for the chance to win these awesome paints.

My favorite give away yet! I don’t have much luck painting black. Only with spray paint. Seems you can always see the brush strokes but then I have never used Dixie Belle paint. As for the dust…just go with it. We have a constant prevailing SW wind up to 40 mph some days. I just tell everyone they can sign their name in it if they want to but to please not put a date on it!😀

LOL, love that! As for black, yes, absolutely try the Dixie Belle … water it down a little, be sure to sand with 220 grit after painting, and then top coat it with wax, hemp oil or the Big Mama’s Butta. If you try putting a water based poly of some sort as a top coat you’re right back to dealing with the brush strokes in the top coat.

I have yet to try either of these colors. I’m still a caviar fan and painted my own chairs with it. I favor pops of color but neutrals always sell better!

I don’t want to knock the Caviar, I do still think it’s a fab black. But if you’re looking for a slightly more ‘aged’ looking black, try the Midnight Sky 🙂

I love this paint and the company! I ordered paint from them and when I received it, the container lid was cracked and the paint had spilled out in the bag it was sent in.
Obviously the carrier was not careful and it must have gotten thrown about.
I called Dixie Bell and they had me email a picture of the mess. In a few days I received a new container of paint.
The paint is great as well.

I purchased the black bench from you a year ago and LOVE it – and it doesn’t show a speck of dust (and I don’t dust it)!!!! Love everything you touch – simply beautiful!

Well, that is Caviar on that bench, so I’m glad to hear that you don’t have issues with dust. I’ve had people ask me about the black painted furniture and whether it shows every speck of dust so now I can say with confidence that it really doesn’t 😉
