I was so pleased with the results that I got with the books that I painted a couple of weeks ago that I decided to keep the black set for myself.

And then make some more!
So I went back to the thrift store and purchased another six books and got to painting.
This time I was a little smarter about my selection and I only purchased those books that were already black. I still had to paint them, but it only took one coat, and I didn’t have to worry about getting the inside edges of the covers.
After painting all six books in Dixie Belle’s Caviar, I pulled out the same two I.O.D. transfers that I used last time to add to them; Wilde Bloemen and Étiquettes .

I also used the Dixie Belle Gold Pen to add some horizontal lines here and there.

I finished them off with a coat of Dixie Belle clear wax.
For the 2nd set of three books, I decided to try a different floral. This time I went with the I.O.D. Saint Germain transfer.

Isn’t that pretty over black?

Now I’m thinking that I’ll need to use this combo on a toolbox!
Although that being said, I think those florals would look pretty over Dixie Belle’s Ecru or Drop Cloth too. On books or toolboxes.
OK, so which floral do you like better?

Wilde Bloemen on the left or Saint Germain on the right?
Leave a comment and let me know.

They are so wonderful and a great idea! I’m a booklover and this would be a great way to recycle some of my oldest ones!

They’re both beautiful. Saint Germain is brighter and grabs the eye while Wilde Bloemen gives a more vintage feel. I like them both! ❤️

What transfer would you recommend that has the best/most lettering per package for smaller projects, either current or retired?

Sadly, hands down, that was the I.O.D. Label Ephemera which has been retired for a few years now and is almost impossible to find at a reasonable price. I tend to scavenge bits of lettering from various other transfers, but it’s not ideal. I readily admit that I spend too much on a large transfer, and then just use the wording and not the rest of it, for example I.O.D.’s Cosette or The Botanist. I recently ordered a new re.design with prima transfer called Sunlit Serenade because it has some nice topography on it in addition to a large yellow floral design, but it hasn’t arrived yet so I can’t say whether or not it will be worth it. I’m sorry I can’t be more help on this, I keep hoping someone will release another transfer that is mostly typography, but no luck so far.

Gosh, thanks for the info & tips! Great idea to look at the typography on other designs I might not necessarily be interested in. Here’s an idea: with your massive creativity and experience – reach out to a few companies and offer a collab to do your own designs! 🙂

My vote is for the Saint Germain. Both are nice though..do you sell them as a set? Where do you get your bags large enough for items heavy and large? I would like to learn from a pro.

Well … I haven’t actually sold any of these yet … but I do price them up as a set. Fingers crossed that they will sell 😉 As for bags, um, I’m not sure what you are asking. What bags? Could you clarify?

I mean, when someone purchases any of you items in store. The handles on the large craft bags they sell on amazon seem too weak with stand the weight of the heavier items, like your toolboxes. I am holding my first craft fair, and I have made some large wooden totes, I didn’t want it look cheesy just using a grocery bag…smile.

Ah, got ya. Well, I don’t actually work in the store, so I don’t know what they do for bags. As for my occasional sale, I do keep it cheesy and use grocery bags 😉

Wow I didn’t know you did cheesy!!!!! I thought for sure you had a store or booth to house all your goodies. Thanks as always for taking the time out to respond….to even stupid questions….Have a great weekend.

Do you know of any good way to make the edge of the pages gold?

I would try the Dixie Belle Gilding Wax in Gold. Just brush or rub it on lightly.
