It’s day 3 of my 12 days of giveaways, and today I’m giving away a couple of my favorite shades of Dixie Belle Paint. But first, congrats to Susan Williams who won the day 1 prize. Last night at midnight was the cut off to be eligible for the day 2 prize so I haven’t drawn that name yet but I’ll get on it this morning.
I go through two Dixie Belle colors like there’s no tomorrow. I have to say that, like Switzerland, I tend to stay neutral. Partially because I find that neutral shades sell really well for me, but also simply because personally I currently prefer them in my own home too.
Drop Cloth is probably the color I use most often these days.

Drop Cloth is a warm, creamy white with a slightly greige undertone. It’s not a yellow-ish cream, and it’s definitely not a bright white.

It’s my white of choice because I feel like you can bring this color into any room and it will play well with your other shades of white. It won’t make any of them look dingy, although it may make some of your brighter whites look brighter.

My 2nd favorite neutral Dixie Belle color is Midnight Sky. I originally favored their Caviar, and I do still love that color, but as I’ve been living with both of these shades of black I’ve realized that I prefer the Midnight Sky. It’s just a hair lighter and leans more towards a deep, dark charcoal.

Because this color is slightly … well, for lack of a better description … less black than the Caviar I think it tends to be more forgiving when it comes to dust or smudges.
I used this color on my piano and quite honestly, I rarely dust. So I need a dark color that is more forgiving 😉

The brush that I tend to reach for the most these days when using the Dixie Belle paint is their Flat Medium Synthetic brush. It holds a nice amount of paint and I find that the shape of the handle makes it really comfortable to hold in my hand. It’s also the perfect size to fit into even the smallest Dixie Belle paint jar without catching on the lip. I know you aren’t supposed to paint straight out of the jar, but I do it all the time (maybe you guys should do as I say, not as I do on this one). It may be my imagination, but somehow this brush also seems easier to clean that my Purdy brushes. I have no idea why that would be, maybe the type of bristle?
Anyway, today’s giveaway is for all of you fellow neutral lovers out there. It includes a 16 oz. jar of Drop Cloth, a 16 oz. jar of Midnight Sky and the Flat Medium Synthetic Brush.

Thank you to Dixie Belle Paint Co for sponsoring this giveaway by providing these products.
The rules: to be eligible to win today’s prize leave a comment on this blog post. If you can’t think of anything to say, just tell me whether you’re a fellow lover of neutrals or you prefer lots of color in your world. Your comment must be left on the blog, not on Facebook or Instagram. You are not required to follow my blog, although it would be awesome if you did!
I will randomly draw the name of a winner for today’s prize from all of the comments left on this post by Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the stroke of midnight (U.S. Central time).
The fine print: no purchase necessary, you must be 18 years of age or older to win, void where prohibited by law, the number of eligible entries received determines the odds of winning, approximate retail value of prize is $65, if the prize is not claimed by Sunday, December 8, another name will be drawn at random to win, blah, blah, blah.
Good luck!

I too tend to paint with more neutral colors. This is a great giveaway!
I look forward to your blog in my inbox. Thanks!

I’ve never tried Dixie Bell paint, but have heard lots of good things about it. Winning this paint would be a great intro to it.

Thank you for offering these opportunities. I only like colors when I see them, so I am not sure I have a preference.

Thank you for all the painting insight. I haven’t taken on any projects for a few years and now have a few items I’d like to get after this winter. Have been looking at all the options out there – so many new products in the past five years. Was reading the Dixie Belle information at your shop. Nice color selections. I tend toward more neutral colors, if blue can be neutral – pale blues and dark navies. Love the color on your piano – keeps it classic. Fun stuff!

I say some shades of blue can definitely count as a neutral, especially navy!

I love both of these colors, the drop cloth is a true neutral white & the midnight sky is dark but still allows details to be seen.

I always enjoy your posts. I have wanted to try the Dixie Belle paints, so thanks for the chance to win. I also love the little white Christmas tree farm chair! I would buy it if I was local!

I love color but find that neutrals are what people request. I’ve always struggled with white and wax because it doesn’t seem to hold up as well as polycoated but the struggle to keep that chalk paint look with polycoat…sigh.

I’m pleased to know that there is a black other than caviar in Dixie Belle’s paint line. I’m not good at the dusting neither. I also haven’t tried drop cloth yet.
I enjoy your posts.

Neutrals fill my house and I always lean that way when painting to sell. I almost have to force myself to paint with color. I love Dropcloth and have used it on several pieces. Have never tried the Midnight Sky, but I have a bench that would be perfect in it. I LOVE all of your painting projects – you do beautiful work! Have been following your blog and Instagram for a long time. Thank you for your inspiration. Merry Christmas!

I too love Dropcloth it is my go to whiteish color. I haven’t tried Midnight Sky yet though but am interested to see if I prefer it over caviar. I think you are correct about the brush clean up. I wouldn’t say I’m a neutral color person but even when using bolder colors I often include a neutral.

You’re a girl after my own heart, since I too, rarely dust. I’ve told more than one person that my attitude toward dusting is to wait until it gets thick enough to roll like lint for bandages…which really also speaks to my love of history. I am fond of neutrals, but a real Chinese red is something that I like very much for a pop of color.

Both of these colors are beautiful. Believe or not I struggle picking out the perfect shade of white. That dresser is especially beautiful.

I totally believe it, I struggle with white too. And sometimes the white that works perfectly on one piece, doesn’t work at all on another. I wrote about that in this post.

Love neutral paints too. After taking all the time and effort to paint (walls or items) I want it to be a color that gets along well with accessories that come and go seasonally.

Hi Q,
Thanks for your tips. I too love the color drop cloth. Although I can order Dixie Belle Online I’d prefer to see a sample chart in a brick and mortar store. Do you know of any near Whittier, Ca. Thanks.

I buy the largest container of drop cloth because it is the best neutral! And I just used caviar but have a jar of midnight sky to use so I’ll use that next when I want a great black. I love all your projects done with these two colors. Great give away and yes, I won Day 2 – so excited! Thank you.

Please enter my name and I have to thank you for my morning chuckle. When you said you rarely dust and favour Midnight Sky I mistook it to mean it does not show dust. First thought was that is the paint for me! Upon a reread I got it.

I’ve only used Dixie Belle’s Vintage Duckegg, but it was a favorite. And there small flat brush is my absolute go to brush! Although I’ve been using Fusion for so long now, I have missed the creaminess of Dixie Belle. Drop Cloth would go quite beautifully on my antique Swedish bed! 😉 I hope you realize though Linda, that your magical talent of using any paint is what truly makes your pieces stand out! Thank you so much for being out there for this California girl. I love looking at all of your Before and After pieces and finding never ending inspiration!

Thank you so much Wendy. I will say that I like different paints for different looks. I love Fusion for it’s durability without a top coat, making it perfect for shelving and the insides of drawers, cupboards, etc. I also love it on mid-mod pieces. But I don’t love to distress it. For distressed pieces I prefer to pull out the Dixie Belle paint. I also prefer using the Dixie Belle over metal (which you’ll see on Wednesday) and definitely over vinyl (like on a vintage suitcase). And when I’m in a chippy mood, it’s milk paint all the way!

I love Drop Cloth too!!! It’s a great color! I just used it on my sleds yesterday. (Thank you for your inspiration on those! ) I’m going to confess something I always paint straight out of the jar. 🙂

I also am a neutral person and love the two colors you are giving away. I painted my old upright piano and a small chest of drawers black a few years ago. And while I love them both they are horrible about showing dust. Your midnight color intrigues me.

Well, I should clarify that it doesn’t completely eliminate the dust problem, but it does hide a little more dust than the Caviar did.
