Happy New Year!

Where in the world did 2018 go?  It just flew by for me.  Overall it was an awesome year, except this last part got a little rocky.  I had some dental work done just a couple of weeks before Christmas and it was a rough recovery.  My body just doesn’t adjust well to having foreign objects installed (it was a crown, in case you are wondering what in the world I’m talking about).  I’m only just starting to feel more like myself again.  Have any of you had this experience with a crown?

It required four trips to the dentist, and I do not enjoy the dentist (even though my dentist and her assistant worked really hard to make me comfortable).  Honestly, the whole thing just threw me for a loop.  Mr. Q was concerned because I completely abandoned my paint brush during this time frame.  I find it difficult to be creative when I’m not feeling well, how about you?

Next time remind me not to schedule this sort of thing just before the holidays!

I’m starting to feel much better now though and I’m putting the whole experience behind me, along with the rest of 2018.  But before we move on, let’s take a look back at some of the projects that I shared with you here on the blog this past year.

Photo collages wrapping up your work for the year are all the rage on Instagram these days, so I thought it would be fun to create one myself for this blog post.  But as I started looking back through my 2018 posts I realized that I needed more than just one.  How about more like seven?

Starting with some of the pieces I did with Prima Marketing transfers …

In fact, I had so much fun using transfers during 2018 that I have to share a second collage of transfer projects.

I was going to do a collage with just pieces painted with Dixie Belle paint, but I soon realized I could do an entire collage of just those painted in Dixie Belle’s Caviar …

This deep, rich black has turned out to be one of my favorite colors to work with.

Next, here are many of the mid-century modern pieces I painted last year.  It’s obvious that Fusion’s Park Bench (green) was my go-to paint for the mid-mods in 2018.

Those are four different dressers painted green, not just different shots of the same piece.  I also did a few dark grey pieces usually using Fusion’s Ash, but the one on the lower right is Dixie Belle’s Gravel Road.  Fusion’s English Rose is the perfect Millennial Pink for this style of furniture too.

And then there are the milk paint pieces from 2018 …

Hmmm, it would seem that I have a definite preference for using milk paint in shades of blue.

Next up are some of my favorite smaller projects that I did in 2018 …

Smaller projects like these are one of my favorite ways to try out new techniques or new paint colors.

And let’s not forget my favorite garage sale finds of 2018.

Is anyone else starting to experience garage sale withdrawal?  Spring is just around the corner, right?

  1. Hopefully you had a root canal before the crown. I have many crowns and the only one that ever bothered me ( not to the degree you sound like you’re experiencing) is the tooth that did not have a root canal.

    1. Nope, no root canal. I think that is why it’s taking longer to get back to normal. My dentist really doesn’t think I need a root canal though, and I would prefer to save the root if possible (because your tooth will last longer if it still has a root intact). Fingers crossed!

  3. Yes, crowns can be a pain. I hope yours settles down soon. Wow! What a year you have had! You are amazing. That is a heck of a lot of pieces!! They all are amazing and I so enjoyed savoring each piece and project. Thank you for sharing with all of us. Happy New Year Linda to you and Mr Q. ❤️

  6. Thank you for all the great ideas. Your beautiful work inspires me all the time. I have a question to ask, I’m find the matte surfaces of furniture painted with fusion paint to be a bit of a challenge as people touch the desk or table tops they leave slight fingerprint spots and general wear.
    I’m wanting to fusion paint my spindles , banister and casings of my orange oak staircase but I’m leery of the matte finish durability.
    Thanks fir any suggestions or advice.

    1. I do notice some fingerprinting over the dark colors of Fusion, mainly the Coal Black, Ash and Midnight Blue. But I would not consider that ‘wear’ or an indication that the paint isn’t durable. I think Fusion is the most durable paint that I use. I’ve painted the ledge and frame of a deep window in my dining room using Fusion’s Raw Silk. I keep plants on that ledge, and rain often gets in (because I forget to shut the window) and I’d never been able to find a paint that lasted long there. The Fusion is holding up beautifully though. Once the paint is cured, it’s very washable. All of that being said, if you’re planning to go with one of the dark colors and the look of fingerprints bugs you, it might not be the right choice for you. Then again, any dark paint is going to show dust, pet hair, fingerprints, etc more so than a lighter color. If you’re looking for durability, Fusion is an excellent choice.

  9. Having a crown = no fun. Takes a while to chew comfortably again on that side.
    How fun to see a review of your favorite projects from the year, a nice reminder of SEVERAL projects I planned (in my head!) to get started on as soon as… Anyway, you have had a most productive and creative year, inspiring us along the way. May the new year excite you with new products, colors, and flashes of inspiration to amaze us all!

  12. Well, Miss Quandie…….now you’re just showing off! How does it feel to know that you are dazzling your public with your prodigious number of beautiful projects, COMPLETED projects, all in one year?!!! I’ve heard it said that the more a person has to do, the more she gets done…..which doesn’t necessarily follow for everyone! You have a day job AND you shop for all these things AND you get all of these transformations DONE…..Wow. And yep, dental work is not super fun…..I have a couple of implants coming up in the new year. So, one day at a time (-: Thanks for the answer to my rub-ons and cracks question….it was helpful. I’m selfishly looking forward to what your happy new year brings us! LOL……..

  13. Love, love this post! It’s nice to see all your gorgeous pieces again. You truly have a talent for making furniture beautiful again.

    Now on to your crown. I’m sorry to hear you had a tough time. I had my first crown put in in November and it was no problem. Only two trips to the dentist, no root canal and the temporary and permanent crown felt/feel like my regular tooth. I don’t know if it makes a difference, but I had a porcelain crown put in instead of gold. My husband has a couple of gold crowns and had root canals with them and he had an adjustment period after they were put in. Hopefully you’ll feel back to normal soon.

    1. My crown is porcelain. But I’ve definitely improved since last week. I think the difficult part was that so many sources said I should feel back to normal after just a few days and that was definitely not true. So of course I was fearing that something was really wrong. But no, it just took a bit longer for me to feel normal I think!

  14. I’m terribly sorry about your dental woes. It’s horrible! I hate the dentist and had top have 5 crowns placed in the front a few years ago and it was quite an adjustment. I didn’t have root canals either. I felt as if I had to learn how to talk again. I’m glad it’s all behind you now and that you’re finally on the mend.
    Seeing so much of your work in one place was wonderful! Each piece – large and small – is beautiful and unique. So many people – even bloggers – get stuck in a rut and it seems as if they’re producing the same effect over and over again. Somehow, you don’t. I have no idea how you get so much done and stay inspired. I’m looking forward to seeing your work in the new year. I’m sure it will be fantabulous!

  15. I am so sorry about your mouth! I booked an Australian trip. 6 or 8 weeks out. The endocrinologist did not cap the crown properly! It was touch and go for a bit! I get your pain! I’m glad you are on the mend! I absolutely love your work! Thank you for all the inspiration!

  16. I see all the wonderful photos together and I am amazed that you still work a day job and have time to do all of these projects. You have inspired me to try to do a few “beginner” pieces of my own!!! I so, look forward to your trip photos as well. I can’t afford to travel, but I can live vicariously through you! Thank you for the details on the photos as well! As for the crown, I have had two and I really didn’t have a problem with either one. The only difference being one dentist took six months to complete a root canal and crown. And the other took one day! EasyPeasy! LOL
