A couple of months ago when Prima Marketing sent me a bunch of transfers to give away, they also threw some extra Metallique waxes into the box.

I’ve been using these waxes since late last year and I gotta say, I love them.

I used to use Rub ‘n Buff for all of my metallic waxing needs, but I really didn’t care for the little tubes that it comes in.  The plastic screw tops always cracked on me and then the wax dried out and clogged the tube.  I also felt like it didn’t dry as hard as the Prima Marketing wax does.  It seemed like more of the wax rubbed off again when I tried to buff it.   Maybe that’s just my opinion though (or user error on my part), I didn’t do any scientific testing or anything.

Regardless, I’ve gotten great results using the Metallique wax.

My favorite use for metallic wax is sprucing up old metal knobs and drawer pulls.  It’s such an easy way to refresh them.  Simply clean your knobs with soap and water, let dry and then apply the wax with a q-tip.  Let the wax harden for a few hours and then buff to bring out the shine.

The Bronze Age on the knobs shown above is a nice warm bronze-ish brown color.  I love pairing this color with Fusion’s Ash or Dixie Belle’s Gravel Road, both dark charcoal greys.

I also love the Vintage Gold which looks a lot like gold leaf to me.

The wax works well on the clean lines of mid-century hardware …

but also on more ornate knobs or pulls …

I had yet to try some of the other colors that are available, so I pulled out some spare hardware to test them out.

From top to bottom they are Old Silver, White Gold, Aged Brass and Rose Gold.  Aren’t they pretty?  I’m patiently waiting for just the right piece to come along for that gorgeous Old Silver, and I just used the White Gold on a mid-century piece that I’ll be sharing in another week or so.

There are plenty of other ways you can use the wax besides just on drawer hardware.  It also works beautifully to add a little shimmer to ornate frames.

The Bronze Age was perfect for disguising the shiny chrome ‘neck’ on my dress form, Collette.

Now for the fun part, Prima Marketing sent me a dozen of these waxes in various colors to give away!  I’m going to give them away in sets of four (approx. value:  $30).  So, we’ll have three winners today.

  3. Fun! Fun! Fun! My house came with a kitchen that doesn’t match my multitude of ‘stuff’, mostly beat up vintage copper. I wonder if the copper on my kitchen knobs would help coordinate? Hmmm… And maybe the antique bronze for the hardware on my childhood French provincial bedroom set my sweet granddaughter has inherited. You have certainly given me lots to think about!! Certainly would be less $$ than the new ones I was eyeing at Van Dykes Restoration. Thanks for all your awesome ideas!!

  5. We have a 1928 home here in California and have been refinishing the mahogany front door this week. We had a convo last night about how we wanted the brass handle to look- shiny? Just cleaned and buffed? Or… boy would this product work well or what? It will be ordered none the less if we aren’t the lucky winner. Thanks for sharing- again.

  8. I love all of them! I like white gold the most! I have a few old picture frames I would like to spruce up. I really could find a use for all of them. The aged brass would help my front door hardware, which really needs a facelift.

  9. Oh the possibilities! I used silver wax from Gilder’s Paste Wax to add a bit of gleam on the embellishments on my update china hutch turned armoire. Your lamps look great!

    1. I don’t know, I suspect that would be a disappointing prize for most 😉 My carriage house is damp, smelly and spidery. And there is no where to sit, so you’d have to stand the entire time!

  19. Vintage gold is my favorite but the aged bronze is nice too. I crack the caps of my Rub n Buff too-weird! Then I usually lose those little tubes so, will or lose, I’m ordering some of these!

  20. I think I like the Bronze Age best. It gives such a beautiful vintage feel. I have the Prima Marketing Art Alchemy Opal Magic Wax in Vintage Silk and that stuff is like magic. On light surfaces it gives a pearlescent look while over darker backgrounds it comes alive with deep blues, reds and other colors. The background color influences which color it will be, I always test first because I’ve yet to figure out how it chooses what color to become but it’s always beautiful. I’m excited to try the Age Bronze and the Vintage Gold waxes – whether I win them or buy them myself. You should get paid for promoting products. I buy a lot of the products you recommend when budget allows because they’re always the best. you never disappoint1

  41. Aged brass of course, as I am the damaged-picture-frame-repair-queen. It is amazing what you can do with plaster of paris and modeling clay or wood filler to repair them an touch them up to match the rest of the frame. I have made myself stop buying damaged frames until I get the ones I have filled!!!
