what took you so long?

I don’t normally post on a Sunday, but this morning I wanted to thank you for your support after my post on Friday regarding Tom & Naomi’s fire.  Every comment and/or donation was greatly appreciated.  The ash has settled and Tom & Naomi are considering their options on how to proceed from here.  I’ll be sure to keep you all posted as their plans progress.

Also, I wanted to let you know that Mr. Q’s grandpa Bud passed away early this morning.  You might expect us to be a house in mourning, but that isn’t the case.  Bud had an amazing long and full life.  He was always telling stories about his experiences such as helping his dad run bootleg liquor down from Canada during prohibition. He also told many tales about serving in WWII as an interpreter.  Having been around for over 100 years, Bud had seen a lot.  Can you imagine having been born at a time when only 35% of homes had a telephone and then living to see that come full circle to cell phones that can be taken with you everywhere eliminating the need for a home phone?

Recently though Bud was basically just patiently waiting to join his wife who passed away two years ago.  When someone asked him what he thought she would say when he joined her in heaven, his answer was ‘what took you so long?

So rather than being sad, we are celebrating the fact that Bud has gotten his wish to join his wife and that after two years apart they are finally back together again now and can both rest in peace.

  2. Oh Linda, I am so sorry to hear the news about your family and about Grandpa Bud. May Grandpa Bud Rest In Peace. May God give you and your family peace and comfort at this time. What a tragedy about the workshop. Thankfully no one was hurt. I will send funds. God bless all of you. I cannot even imagine loosing years of work and beauty. I will continue to pray.

  3. I am writing from Prince Edward Island, Canada and am an avid follower of your wonderful blog. So sorry to hear of Tom and Naomi’s fire. Always heartbreaking to lose something one worked so very hard for. It is not always easy to replace all the memories, special things collected and made over time even if money is no object. (My parents lost their business in a fire when I was young.). Hopefully they are able to rebuild soon. My sympathy on Bud’s passing and may he be dancing in his wife’s arms as we speak!

    1. Yes, this was one tough week, but Mr. Q’s family is very resilient. His mom & step-dad are no strangers to difficult times, but they always come out on the other side stronger than ever. I know they’ll pick up and move on from here.

  6. Sweet photo and Grandpa Bud was surely loved. I hope Mr. Q isn’t too lost at breakfast and lunch, but knowing his grandfather is home with his beloved wife will be a comfort. So many years of memories. I know you will be there for your husband and all he’s going through. God bless and God speed.

  7. You are so right in saying it’s not a sad time for Gpa. This life on earth gets to be difficult and bodies are heavy to move around at the end. He is in a good place and reunited with his honey and other family now.
How many times while in ER with my 96 yo Mom would I read her your posts. She was originally from Ladysmith WI so we would talk about the beautiful flowers etc. in bloom in your photos. (I loved the furniture and she enjoyed the lovely foliage backgrounds). Anyway my mom passed away a couple months ago. Just want to say thanks for your always heartfelt posts. And your hubs did a great thing to just be there hanging with Gpa.
Hope this wasn’t inappropriate and wordy for your blog. This touched a sensitive spot in my heart today. ❤️
