Just before I left on vacation I ordered a new Christmas tree online from Target (no affiliation). I had been shopping for boring stuff at my local store during my lunch break and I saw this pretty 6’ pre-lit silver tree. I’m calling it silver, but they call it rose gold. It looks pinkish in their photo (below) but in person it looks pretty much silver.
I didn’t want to attempt to wrestle it into my car, and in fact I wasn’t even sure how well it would fit. As a reminder I drive a VW Beetle convertible. Not a lot of cargo room, especially in the winter when you can’t have the top down.
So instead I took a quick pic of the tag with my phone so I would have all the info and when I got home later that night I ordered the tree online.
I wasn’t especially thinking about getting a new tree, but the price was pretty reasonable at $127. Then I got an additional 15% off because it was on sale, then another 5% off for using my Target red card. Plus I got free shipping because I used the red card. Heck of a deal to get the tree delivered right to my door instead of having to try and squeeze it into my car, right?
And since my vintage ornament non-collection (because I don’t really collect stuff) has been growing by leaps and bounds, I decided a bigger tree was a good idea for this year.
I picked up quite a few vintage ornaments at garage sales over the summer. Garage sales and estate sales are a great source for them. Most shoppers aren’t thinking ahead to Christmas in the middle of summer, so it’s easy to snap them up on the cheap. I bought these for 75 cents per box …
My other favorite source for vintage ornaments is a little shop in downtown North Saint Paul called La’ Garage. The inventory at La’ Garage comes from the purchase of entire estates or just random second hand stuff, along with some new goods. Every year they close up shop the week before Thanksgiving and completely revamp the store for Christmas. They open bright and early on black Friday full of vintage goodies. This year Debbie, Kris and I headed over there bright and early that morning.
Normally I wait and shop later because I’m not a fan of the crazy crowds, but I did find more ornaments this way. I came home with this stash including the funky cake pan. I just loved the ‘look’ of the cake pan. I’m not sure what I’ll do with it yet, but it had to come home with me.
Anyway, lucky I have the bigger tree this year because it is chock full with all of these additions.
The size of this tree is perfect to tuck into this corner of my piano room.
I really don’t have much room in the living room itself for a tree, even this slim model. So instead it’s just around the corner.
I put my collection of tree toppers in the window next to the tree.
I feel a bit like a broken record at Christmas. This is year 4 of sharing my vintage ornaments on a silver tree. I’m really going to have to come up with something new next year. But whatever it is, it will have to be in addition to my silver tree of vintage ornaments because I enjoy pulling these fragile glass balls out of their tissue paper each year and hanging them on the tree. I have my favorites that always get placed front and center.

Love your new rose gold tree. Personally I like a tree that is very full with bulbs.
I like to renew my tree every year. This year it will be difficult to put up my tree. My dad passed away and it’s hard to believe we had 65 Christmases together. But since he loves Christmas and after his mother died (when he was 11 he didn’t have one until he was married.) I will continue on on his honour.
I will incorporate all his ornaments in my decor.

Oh Janice! Your comment has brought a tear to my eye. I am so sorry for your loss, and how sad for your dad that he went without a tree for so many years. I hope you’ll remember the loads of happy memories of your dad while you put up your tree. And how awesome that you have ornaments from him to use!

Was always a green tree with my vintage glass ornaments. Then I bought a white tree. The past few years I have been doing color theme trees. White/gold/silver on white tree. Shades of blue/green on white and this year red/white/silver on a green tree. In addition I have a small green tree in the dinning room with mainly vintage ornies. It’s fun to be able to chage it up. Now I think I might need a silver tree. Thanks Linda……

We always get a very tall fresh cut tree, I can’t imagine not having that lovely scent in the house during the season. We have been collecting ornaments throughout the years, and yes, we do have favorite ones that always go front and center! This year, we will need to change things up a bit – with 2 rambunctious 6 month old lab puppies in the house, we will be foregoing all our glass ornaments! Not only am I afraid they will all be broken (yes, I can imagine a knocked over tree!), I am afraid they will consider the ornaments toys and end up with cut mouths or internal damage. So, the kids and I will be gathering pine cones and baking clay ornaments and perhaps making pom-pom garlands – I hope next year we will be able to use all our lovely, sentimental ornaments again! I love, love, love your new tree so perfect for your non-collection of vintage ornaments. And your tree toppers are just fabulous. I bet you even have snow every Christmas. I have a 10 ft green tree because my in laws discarded it in our direction when the prelit trees came along. And yes I basically do the same decor every year. I fell in love with an all red tree about ten years ago. I use all red ornaments some are glittered, some have a satin finish and my favorite are oversized mercury glass ones which are pretty heavy. We also add stems of faux berries and real cinnamon brooms. Sounds crazy but it adds texture to an artificial tree and gives the house a wonderful aroma. All that said we are the crazies still putting strings of lights on our tree. Lol!

Yum, I bet that cinnamon smells heavenly. As for pre-lit, I have to laugh. This is my first experience with a pre-lit tree and I don’t know why, but somehow I expected the lights to be sort of ‘built-in’ to the branches somehow. I’ll fully admit that I didn’t really think that through or know exactly how that would be accomplished. So imagine my surprise when I discovered that pre-lit just means that someone else took the time to put the lights on and tie them in place with little twisty ties. Ha!

Ahhhh ….. Q. I’m trying really hard to like this tree. The ornaments, of course, are gorgeous (they were new when I was young). But, I was a pre-teen when silver fake trees made their full blown appearance on the scene and I never warmed up to them. I know it is now a decorating theme but there is still a part of me that wants to use them to wrap leftovers for reheating later. Sorry to be a downer as I know it is unacceptable on blogs (I got kicked off a blog for having a differing opinion so I’ve got my seat belt secured and the tray in the upright position in case you choose to hurl me into the ethosphere). Merry Christmas in case I’m blocked for future comments.

You have provided a good laugh for me this morning Ruth. You can put that tray table back down, and even go ahead and put a drink on it because hopefully you’re not going anywhere for quite some time. I suspect that my silver tree appeals to only a very small segment of the population. It’s a different look, and definitely not even one that’s currently ‘in’. If I was concerned about appealing to the majority I think I’d have to run out and get myself a flocked tree this year. Maybe next year I’ll get flocked … oh wait, maybe I should be telling you to go get flocked … sorry, couldn’t resist … Merry Christmas to you too Ruth!

Love that tree. I have always had a tree in our bedroom full of the vintage ornaments. But the “fake” one has started to loose more needles than a real one, so I was going to do something different this year. But after seeing this one with the lights already on it I think I’ll be putting up another tree🌲FYI… I love all my beautiful glass ornaments so much my trees stay the same.

You know Donna, I’m kinda loving the idea of putting my silver tree in my bedroom next year. I have plenty of room in there for it, and I love the idea of leaving it lit up at night while I read in bed. And then I can add a more traditional evergreen tree downstairs somewhere. I’m going to make a note of that idea (because sadly, I do need to have a note or I’ll never remember this by next year)!

I too have a slim tree because it fits perfectly in the corner between the fireplace & the couch. This year I changed a few things, the biggest being how I used ribbon. I tucked it in and out vertically zig zagging down the tree alternating red & gold ribbon. I have to say it looks like it could be in the store window of Macy’s. I then alternated my gold ornaments & a few past sentimental ones from our kids. Old & new. Then I backed up & if I saw any holes, I put a gold pick (so easy to do because you just lay them in)! Linda, so nice you went to a full size tree & be aware, I’m going to sneak in your house when you are dreaming of sugarplums & taking your vintage toppers!!

Just because my house is small, I have a slim tree too…but the traditional green. And I love it so much the ornaments don’t come off until the end of January, and the tree didn’t make it back to the basement until July! We love how it looks with just the white lights. I did put a few red heart ornaments on it for Valentines Day, but otherwise, it was just nice sitting there all lit. The tree, not me…lol

OH what a beautiful tree! And I love your tree topper collection! We have had many styles of trees over the years…a flocked tree for the last two. I love vintage ornaments…the wonderful patina…and decorate mostly with them. The rest are special family pieces. It’s always fun finding vintage ornaments and decorations when you’re out treasure hunting!

I love tinsel trees of all sizes. Yours is just gorgeous!! I have huge jars of vintage glass tree ornaments – many belonged to my parents. They stay out all year long, like works of art.

I knock on wood as I write this because I am really taking a chance with the way I have those tree toppers displayed. I just hold them in place on the window sill with something called Stick-Um Candle Adhesive {here is a link to the product at Ace Hardware}. It’s a really sticky wax. I did the same last year and they made it through the season just fine, so I thought I’d go for it again. It seems to hold them quite well, but at the same time it’s certainly not fool-proof and it could be disastrous if they don’t hold. I know I should come up with something better!

It’s funny how many people had those bulbs the first time around and now they don’t really like them. We did not have many of this sort of bulb on our tree growing up, I think my grandmother probably had more of this style. Maybe it needs to skip a generation!

This tall, skinny tree is a perfect fit in so many small spaces and prelit no less! It is a very vintage backdrop for your lovely ornament collection. My favorite idea is the tree toppers along the window ledge – so unexpected! How do you keep them from tumbling down? We always get the tallest Frasier fur tree that will fit in the living room. The house smells divine! My daughters come home to help with the decorating and certain ornaments always go front and center. So many memories and stories accompany each ornament which is a very sweet part of the season.

Those toppers are held in place by Stick Um, a sticky wax made for holding candles in place. I used it last year and there were no mishaps, so I’m hoping I have the same results this year!

Yeah, I’m going to have to rein in my compulsion for buying old ornaments so I don’t need a bigger tree! I used a product called Stick Um to stick those toppers to the window sill. It’s a very sticky wax. I used it last year too, and it seems to do the job.
