my vintage finds.

Last week I posted about an awesome barn sale that was taking place at Kim’s house, as well as the St. Croix Valley Vintage Crawl.  Since the weather forecast for Saturday was less than stellar, my sister, my friend Terri and I decided to participate in the Crawl.  If it’s going to be stormy all day, why not spend it checking out some fab vintage shops?

That picture is probably a little misleading since I already had that scale and flour sifter.  It’s what’s underneath those items that is new and deserves ‘find of the day’ status.

Ta da!

jelly cupboard 1

I bought this lovely jelly cupboard at Kim’s barn sale.  I just couldn’t resist it.  The color was perfect, the size was perfect, and I’ve always wanted a jelly cupboard.

Most people might think they should use this piece in a kitchen or maybe a dining room.  Not me.  I’m going to use it in my bedroom.  There are shelves inside that hold folded t-shirts and jeans, while the two drawers are perfect for socks and undies.

This cupboard suits my style so much better than my old 90’s cherry colored armoire.  I’m so happy with it despite the fact that I wrenched my back while moving it in!

I still need to figure out what I want to keep on top of it.  I’m not really going to leave the scale and the flour sifter up there.  I’m going to wait and see what comes my way.

I also purchased this old iron foot board at the barn sale.

I haven’t found the perfect spot for it yet, but it will definitely go in the garden somewhere.

I also came home from the Crawl with this perfectly aged blue metal stool.

blue stool

I purchased it at My Sister’s Cottage.  It was one of those things where I just had to have it, even though I didn’t know where I would use it.  You know how that goes, right?  You carry it around your house just looking for the right spot.  This stool found a home relatively quickly in the kitchen.

I’m sure you’ll see more of it in future photo shoots.  It’s the perfect shade of blue!

So stay tuned!

  1. Lol! So you got a blue stool in the end anyway! Love, love, love the jelly cupboard. So your style, so your color, so you! And you didn’t have to paint it that’s almost weird. Although you probably have plenty of pieces in your house that you didn’t paint maybe? Ouch – how’s the back doing?

    1. I’m a little out of commission for lifting heavy stuff, but my back is slowly recovering. And yes, I did get my blue stool. This one is larger that that other one and will actually work for sitting on. As for the jelly cupboard, yep, that one practically had my name on it 😉

  2. love what you took home! Especially that metal bed rail! Gorgeous…I’ve never seen one like it! I adore metal stools and have a couple myself, but they are usually outside as a plant stand. Wish we had “crawls” like that here. What fun!

    1. The metal bed is in pretty rough shape, but that makes it perfect for the garden! I’m trying to figure out a spot where it won’t go unnoticed. Then I’ll probably plan a clematis to grow on it. Although it would also be lovely with some morning glories … hmmm … I might have to think about that a bit more.

  3. Great idea to use a jelly cupboard in the bedroom for clothing. Open the doors and everything is visible. So much better than dresser drawers. Love the color too.

  4. Love the jelly cupboard! Good find…and the blue stool was meant to be. But the backstory is just as good! After a few minutes (ok, seconds) of debating whether or not to buy it,, we all go to the cashier for the sale. Cashier starts ringing it up when Deb says…hey, wait a minute, tou get to “draw a stck”. Sure enough, the cashier has almost forgotten….you get to draw a stick out of a bucket with various percentages off and She ended up with 50% off the stool! How fun was that? There, was dancing at the eegister!

  5. See! that’s probably karma for you, since you fix up so many wonderful pieces to suit other people’s homes, you were granted some special pieces you didn’t have to do a thing to that fit perfectly in your own home! 😃

  6. Love your jelly cupboard. The colors are beautiful. Can I ask a silly question? I can only see a portion of the picture with the footboard but I’m wondering what is a footboard? Thanks, Judy

    1. No question is too silly! It’s the foot board for a bed. You know, at the opposite end from the headboard. In this particular case, I don’t have the rest of the bed frame. I know it’s the foot board because of where the side rails would attach (if I had them, but I don’t have those either) and which side is more decorative (the side that would face out). Does that make sense?

  7. The key to furnishing one’s home and developing a personal style is to buy things that capture the heart. They will always find a place…usually many…where they fit in perfectly. Your blue stool is a real find!
