It’s official. I’m addicted to vintage wallpaper. There is just something about it. The colors. The texture. The very vintage-ness of it.
As soon as I saw this dresser on craigslist, I knew it would be perfect for wallpapering. I had a bit of this Lily of the Valley wallpaper left, so I painted the dresser using MMSMP in Eulalie’s Sky, which I knew would work well with the background color of the wallpaper.
This dresser has the most charming hardware.
And some fab detail on the mirror base.
I staged the dresser with a vase full of Vanilla Strawberry hydrangea, an old family wedding photo, and my fab new clock.
I don’t know who the wedding couple is in this photo, but the farmhouse behind them belonged to my great grandparents in Arlington, South Dakota.
Anyway, this lovely dresser has already gone up to the Round Barn in Andover. Pricetag: $298. Stop in and see it in person, and take some time to look around at all of the other fabulous things that Lori has in her shop. I swear, every time I go in there I find some fun little thing to bring home with me. This time it was Maple Pumpkin Butter. Yum! I also stocked up on Miss Mustard Seed milk paint in Trophy, Grain Sack, Apron Strings and Linen. Stay tuned to see what I paint next!

I just love, love, love the dresser you rehabbed! It is just lovely! How do I find vintage wallpaper? I rehab a lot of furniture and consign many pieces. I would like to add a different spin such as you did but do not know where to look? Thank you for inspiring me Quandie! I love your blog!

Thanks Deb! I’ve gotten most of my vintage wallpaper on Etsy. There are several vendors who sell it by the yard there. I have ordered from Hannah’s Treasures and Rosie’s Vintage Wallpaper, both through Etsy and both were fantastic to work with. If you go to their stand alone websites, they tend to just sell it by the whole roll and you don’t need that much for a piece of furniture.

I would buy this piece in a heartbeat. It is so much like one I remember in my Grandmother’s sewing room. The wallpaper was on the wall and the dresser was in the room so this uniting of both brings back a lot of sweet, sunny memories. It is perfect. Thanks for the good tip on where to get yards of wallpaper. The vignette on top is so alluring.

Did you by any chance watched Breathless on Masterpiece Theater on PBS? I confess, I have a thing for British television. Anyway … funny enough … in one of the hospital room scenes I noticed that the room was wallpapered in a Lily of the Valley pattern that was very similar to the wallpaper I used on this dresser!

I have a thing for British Telly as well. Do you watch Midsomer Murders or Foyle’s War? Or maybe the Vicar of Dibley? Actually I am hooked on the rather unconventional Last Tango in Halifax as well.

I didn’t see Breathless, but I wish I would have. I am a huge fan of British television and have been for a long time. It started with Absolutely Fabulous and the James Herriot series in the 80s. I have every DVD of Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By and those are just the comedies! I once saw some wallpaper in The Postman Always Rings Twice with Jack Nickelson and I tracked it down and used it in my house. It was from the early 1940’s. I think you and I are kindred spirits as Anne of Green Gables used to call her friends.

AbFab was a classic! Mr Q and I really loved “Coupling” … the British version. They tried to make an American version a while back and it was a complete flop. But Jack Davenport from Coupling was also in Breathless, although playing a very different role. I have to confess that the main thing that I liked about Breathless was the 60’s fashions! The actresses have amazing wardrobes.

Funny. The last two big pieces I have done were apron strings topped with linen and then trophy topped with grain sack.
